Fall Movie Preview

I just got my Entertainment Weekly’s Fall movie preview, and I have to say, there are some truly interesting movies coming out.

These are just a
few that I'm excited for.

Casino Royale: Yes the Daniel Craig is blond, yes he has rugged good looks and yes he has blue eyes. But I'm not a hardcore Bond purest and I think this could be the start of a beautiful thing for the Bond Franchise. Casino Royale is actually the adaptation of Ian Flemings first Bond novel, so guess what its going to be how Bond became Bond.

Children of Men: Ok this movie is totally for me, it stars Clive Owen, Julianne Moore and Michael Caine and is written and directed by Alfonso Cuaron, who you might remember was also the writer and director of Y Tu Mama Tambien. The movie is a Sci Fi thriller [of course set in the future] where Owens character has to deliver the last pregnant woman on earth to safety. Of course Sir Michael Caine will be playing and I quote "a Yoda-like pot smoking hippie" what could be better?! [September 29th]

Sherrybaby: Ok I'm a sucker for down and out indie drug addiction flicks. Sherrybaby stars Maggie Gyllenhall as a former heroin addict that just gets out of prison and is going through all those things that drug addicts go through, getting a job, staying clean, dealing with an abusive childhood and getting her daughter back, you know the normal stuff. Oh and did I mention the nudity, they'll be lots of that. [September 9th]

Hollywoodland: Ok I admit it, as much as I love Batman, I have a special place in my heart for the man of steel. Hollywoodland is based on the true life story of the investigation in to George Reeves's [The man who played Superman in the 1950's television show] apparent suicide after everything seems to go wrong. An affair with the studio chiefs wife, and the fact that he couldn’t get another job because he was... Superman, and other horrors that come after playing a character like that. The movie stars Adrian Brody [Who plays the Detective], Diane Lane, Ben Affleck [who plays Reeves, he should know what happens to a career after you put on tightes] and Bob Hoskins. [September 8th]

Marie Antoinette: Finally, and I mean it, finally someone has made a movie about my favorite lady of history, of course played by the one woman I think could pull it off, Kirsten Dunst. You pretty much get the just of it by the title, the movie will be about Marie Antoinette the future queen of france who marries Louis XVII at 14, this is her story about trying to fit in on the verge of the French Revolution. It also stars Jason Schwartzman, Rip Torn [Yes Rip Torn] and Judy Davis, directed by none other than my hero Soifia Coppola. [Oct 20th]

Running with Scissors: There is litterly TOO much in this story to explain. What I can say is that it stars Joseph Cross as Augusten Burroughs' as a 20 year old [Based on his best selling memoir about his childhood], Gwenyth Paltrow, Annette Bening, Brian Cox, Joseph Fiennes and Evan Rachel Wood. All I can say, is there bipolar mothers, psycho sisters, psychiatrists and unwanted homosexuality. [October 27th]

[Stranger than Fiction: Ok Will Ferral in a Sci Fi movie, first thing you think is "This is going to be hilarious" think again. From what I can see this will be kind of like Jim Carey in The Truman Show[ [Which I love]. The movie pretty much is, Ferral’s character [Harold Crick an IRS worker] finds that he has a "female narrator is chronicling the evens of his life in a voice only he can hear". He soon finds that he has somehow got caught up in a novelist’s work in progress. He just wants control over his life again. I'm pumped for this movie, just because I think it will be more than interesting to see Ferral in a more serious role. Oh it also stars Dustin Hoffman, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Emma Thompson. [November 10th]

Candy: Heath Ledger and Abbie Cornish play heroin addicted lovers [What'd I tell you?] Ledger plays a "free spirited poet and Cornish plays a art student. Isnt it always the art student poets that get in to these kinds of things. I want to see some real life storys man, house wives addicted to pain killers, but I know I will like it because A: It has Drugs and B: It just looks sexy.

Shortbus: Ok I'm not going to say much about this movie other than its an indie film about sex. The actors will be engaging in "real" let me repeat "real"sex on screen, hetero, homo and solo, heres a movie to take the kids to. The director John Cameron Mitchell [Hediwg and the Angry Inch] says when asked about the movie "It's like Woody Allen, with money shots". Lets hope so John, let's hope so.

There are of course a MILLION more, The History boys a college story about 8 British boys, adapted from the play by the same name, there is homosexuality and Jewish jokes [Nov 22]. There is also Charlottes Web, with the always adorable Dakota Fanning [Dec 20th]. The Good German, a black and white Flick with George Clooney, Cate Blanchett and Toby Maguire, yes another WWII flick, and no there is very little war in it [Dec 8th]. The Painted Veil two words Edward Norton, it’s a romance/politics thing based on the novel by the same name, Norton says he’s been working on the movie for six years. The Prestige, Ok Wolverine and Batman
pair up in this movie about... no you guessed wrong, Magicians, yes Bale and Jackman play rival magicians, its ok Michael Caine, Scarlett Johansson and David Bowie also star. Oh yea, and the Tenacious D Movie: In the Pick of Destiny, which I will not be seeing, but will probably be forced to watch once it comes out on DVD.

So go out there, and see some movies Dammit!
